This is a Gorgeous Antique late Victorian Brooch or Pin that doubles as a locket which was typical at the time. It is solid Silver
with a substantial medallion-like face beautifully adorned with
slightly raised floral and engraved foliate motifs. The flowers are
accented in Rose Gold while the leaves are accented in Green Gold.
In turn it is framed by a geometrically scalloped ring treated with
Rose Gold and finally, the fancy edging at the border complete with
ball detailing. The pictures provide the best description of all. The
back features a window complete with bezel and original glazing ready
to secure a picture of a loved one/s. The pin may or may not be
original but it is the typical tube hinge and C clasp although it
appears to have been reattached at some point. It is in excellent
working order. It has that silky smooth feel and the patina expected of quality antique jewellery. HISTORY & HALLMARKS Era: c1895 late Victorian Trademark: A.J.S. Maker: unable to source info Construction: Solid Sterling Silver – no hallmarks Metal Purity: unmarked MEASURES Diameter: 3.7cm or just shy of 1.5” Weight: 8 grams OVERALL Very Good Antique Condition! It does display evidence of its over one century age – the repair to the pin at the back, chipping
to the glass cover’s edges and wear to the ball beading all visible in
the pictures. It is structurally sound and very attractive with lots
more to offer. I rarely offer brooches because they are difficult to
source but I could not pass this one by. You will be thrilled with this
purchase as it is such much prettier than the pictures show. |
