Dating to the 1930’s due to its
Victorian Revival styling, this is very
similar to a Victorian Wedding or Bride’s Bangle Bracelet which were often worn
in pairs. By tradition, one was gifted by the fiancé upon engagement & the
other on their Wedding Day.
The First
Victorian Revival period occurred during the thirties and was the era during
which the R.F. Simmons Company (est. 1873), created their Betsy Ross line of
gold-filled oval hinged bangle bracelets embellished with black detailing to
replicate taille d'epergne enamel.
The design is magnificent and
incorporates a symmetrical design with a floral motif at the centre flanked by
leaves, scrolls, flowers and geometrical accents, all on a finely patterned
background.
The fine black enamel-like detail
highlights the design perfectly and looks almost brand new! Traditionally the enameling
technique was achieved by etching the design into the metal, filling it with
powdered black glass and finally, firing the work to achieve a fantastic
result. This finish replicates the look.
The hinge and tongue & box clasp is
in perfect working order with the original safety chain in place for additional
security.
It has the
silky smooth feel usually only associated with solid carat gold and expected of
quality antique jewellery. It has a warm, yellow hue and is so much
nicer than the pictures suggest.
